We each can influence a positive outcome of the design process and our specific expertise is invaluable to the final product. The Professor, Jim Kirby, leads the design phase and is passionate about achieving quality designs that ‘fit’ the client’s budget, schedule, quality and scope of work. Design Excellence is achievable at all levels – it just takes thoughtful planning.

Design/Process Services

• Pre-Planning: Is building new feasible? Should you renovate in-place or is a purchase-renovation the best solution?
• Budgeting & Scheduling: Do you know if you have the appropriate budget? What are all of the costs going to be? What about surprises or scope change? How long will the project take?
• Find the right Site for your project: Consider how sunlight, wind, drainage, trees, access or even noise will affect your project. Do you know your property and neighborhood zoning?
• Developing the right Design solution: Design is the most critical phase of a project. It’s where you have the most control of what will happen next. Be sure to be realistic but don’t forget to dream here.
• Building and Finish Materials: Indoor air quality is very important and materials can impact this in negative or positive ways. Select ‘healthy’ products that are long lasting and maintainable.
• Building Performance: Protect your project investment by pursuing quality performance of the building systems like heating, cooling and plumbing fixtures. The building insulation, windows, and air flow are important too.
• Plan for Construction: Know what to expect and plan for the unexpected – Review your Budget & Schedule – Enjoy the process and stay focused.
• Make sure your project Performs well: The worst performance time of a new building is the day it is completed because it hasn’t been tuned up yet. Like an instrument or automobile, buildings do need tuning before they reach their best operating condition. Be sure to plan for your Tune-Up!
