Meet Jim Kirby
We Call Him THE PROFESSOR
An architect by training, Jim Kirby is a life long student of the global environment by passion. He sees architecture as an important way to convey his understanding of environmental conditions and sharing what he learns comes easy to him. Jim’s 24 years in architecture has afforded him the opportunity to work with world class firms in a variety of market sectors and hone his expertise in environmental building design. He enjoys the details of how a building accommodates the needs of people and the demands of the external environment in a long lasting and artful way. In 2008, Jim was selected for the inaugural Green Business Leader award by the Charlotte Business Journal and US Green Building Council Charlotte Region Chapter. In 2010, Jim started the firm GREENTHINC., PLLC, an Charlotte-based environmental-focused architectural design and consulting practice operating in North Carolina and South Carolina. GREENTHINC is a firm that teaches as well practices which is why we call Jim Kirby THE PROFESSOR!
I learned about a passive solar house design when I was a 15 year old high school drafting student and have never looked back since. The high school carpentry class built that house and I see it every time I visit my folks. Some ideas are just too good to forget which is why I keep beating this environmental architecture drum – it just makes sense to me.
